South West Peninsula
In the South West Peninsula we offer high quality training in medical specialities based in an environment of outstanding natural beauty. The School of Medicine was established in 2008 and is now a proactive organisation that offers real quality control for ST training posts in Devon and Cornwall as well as a strong partnership with the Peninsula Medical School. The School is new but the training posts are well established and previously functioned as part of the old South West Region. There is a tradition of excellent clinical teaching and research locally, or out of programme, is strongly encouraged.
We have had very positive feedback from the new Peninsula GIM training days (5 each year) and we have already developed the infra-structure required to deliver the new GIM curriculum. Trainees with CCT from our programme have a very good record in terms of consultant appointments both in the Peninsula and nationally. For further details of the training programmes please click onto the relevant specialty below near the foot of this page.
If you choose to come and train with us you will have the opportunity to live and work in one of the most beautiful parts of the United Kingdom. There is no better place for an active outdoor lifestyle with an excellent climate. The unspoilt beaches along the North Devon and North Cornwall coasts provide some of the UK’s best surf breaks, whilst the picturesque South Coast provides the backdrop for some great sailing and windsurfing. The spectacular moorland of Dartmoor, Exmoor and Bodmin Moor, along with the South West Coastal Path, provide limitless possibilities for hikers, climbers and mountain bikers.
For those more attracted to urban living, Exeter and Plymouth offer you the chance to live in vibrant, historic and multicultural university cities, with excellent links to the rest of the country (Exeter to London Paddington is only two hours by train). There are plenty of smaller towns and villages to choose from for those who prefer a quieter life.
In the South West Peninsula you will have the opportunity to mix and match lifestyle choices and undertake high quality, well regulated training in medical specialities. Apply to the South West Peninsula Deanery for Quality of Training and Quality of Life.

These posts are over-arching programmes between the two deaneries, and if appointed to this programme you may be required to rotate between both Severn and Peninsula Deanery to maximise your training opportunities.
