Welcome to the Wild West and the ‘Magnificent Severn’!  The Severn Postgraduate School of Medicine is a vibrant organisation committed to the training of our future physicians.  Severn offers something for everyone – the Cotswolds, the ‘big city’ feel of Bristol, and the attractive coastline and hills of Somerset.

There are good transport links to London, and also further south down the M5 for sailing and surfing in Devon and Cornwall.  Our sporting and cultural opportunities are excellent, and it is no coincidence that virtually everyone who has worked in our part of the West Country wants to stay.

The Severn School of Medicine has close links with its sister school in the Peninsula, because in the past we were combined as the ‘South West Region’.  Since the creation of the Peninsula Undergraduate Medical School, Peninsula has had its own Postgraduate Deanery; however, it should be noted that ST3 rotations in Renal Medicine will overarch between Severn and Peninsula.

Link with SW Peninsula Deanery

Within the specialty of Renal Medicine, posts advertised in Severn and Southwest Peninsula will be recruited to under one UoA (Unit of Application), which will be referred to in the RCP-hosted process as ‘Severn-Southwest Peninsula’ (sometimes abbreviated to ‘Severn-SWP’). These posts are over-arching programmes between the two deaneries, and if appointed to this programme you may be required to rotate between both Severn and Peninsula Deanery to maximise your training opportunities.

Severn Deanery will act as the lead deanery in recruitment to these posts.

Round 2

Severn Deanery is participating in 2010 ST3 Recruitment Round 2, and has vacancies available in the specialties of cardiology, endocrinology/diabetes and renal medicine (see table below).

There are no vacancies remaining from 2010 Round 1, nor any scheduled to arise before 2011, in the specialties of gastroenterology or geriatric medicine here.

* The available renal medicine post here over-arches between Severn and Southwest Peninsula Deaneries, with Severn acting as the lead deanery.
