The Medical Directorate of NES is responsible for the commissioning and delivery of postgraduate medical education in Scotland. Scotland has four postgraduate medical deaneries:

East - Dundee and area
North - Aberdeen, Inverness and the Scottish Highlands and Islands
South East - Edinburgh and area
West - Glasgow and area

A map of Scotland, displaying these four deanery areas, can be downloaded from this page (above).

Applicants to Scotland will be able to preference the four deaneries prior to offers being made. Offers will be made at deanery level. Please note that candidates applying to the four participating specialties in Scotland via the national process will select 'Scotland' as the appropriate UoA in the first instance.

Living and working in Scotland

Wherever you go, you can experience the breathtaking scenery of Scotland together with a wide selection of outdoor activities. Opportunities for sport and recreation abound, with world class pursuits such as mountain biking, climbing, hill walking and skiing. In addition, our coastline offers great sailing, surfing and kayaking.

Scottish culture too has plenty to offer and is renowned for its focus on music and the arts with a busy calendar of festivals and events. Our reputation for excellent food produce is reflected in the thriving restaurant scene in Scotland's towns and cities, including several award-winning and Michelin star establishments.

Transport links between the major towns and cities are good, with reasonable commuting times and less traffic congestion than might be experienced in London or its surrounding areas.

When you combine this distinct Scottish character with the extremely high quality of training on offer, friendly people and supportive colleagues, the result is the perfect training destination. We look forward to welcoming you and are sure you will want to stay.

Round 2

Scotland does not have any vacant posts in the RCP-hosted specialties remaining from 2010 Round 1, nor any scheduled to arise before 2011. Thus it is not participating in 2010 Round 2.
