Timing/Application Process

Following the recent closure of Round 1 (R1) of recruitment to 2010 ST3 posts in RCP-hosted specialties, a second round of recruitment (R2) has provisionally been scheduled. The RCP-SRO is currently in discussion with deaneries and specialty representatives regarding the available posts which will be entered into this, and a provisional timetable is being compiled currently.

Timing

Please see our Calendar tab for a full timeline – however, please be aware that the online application form is open from 9.00 am (BST) on Friday 27 August 2010, and will be open for a fortnight – closing at 12.00 midday (BST) on Monday 13 September 2010.

Once we have had confirmation of interview dates from all deaneries, this information will also appear on our website. It is likely that R2 interviews will take place during late September/early October, with deaneries/UoAs making offers to candidates as soon as they are able once interviews are complete.

The Application Process

Applicants wishing to apply to ST3 posts in 2010 in the specialties of Endocrinology & Diabetes, Gastroenterology, Geriatric Medicine and Renal Medicine in England, Scotland & Wales, and in Cardiology in England & Wales (not Scotland) will be able to complete an online application form once the system has opened on 26th February. The application portal can be accessed through the front page of this website.

Candidates will be able to submit up to two application forms within each specialty, and to apply to any or all of the five co-ordinated specialties. Any application form that a candidate submits will be totally independent of any other applications they submit, even if the candidate submits two in the same specialty.

Each of the application forms will be completed and submitted through the online system; where candidates wish to submit more than one application form to our partner specialties, the application system will allow selected information already entered into one application form to be copied to a new form, so as to prevent having to re-enter the same information on several occasions.

Following submission, applications will undergo long-listing – where deaneries check applications for eligibility – and then short-listing, where deaneries assess and score forms more specifically; those candidates whose forms score highest in short-listing will be invited to interview.

Interviews will be run on the Multiple Mini-Interview format. They will likely consist of three stations in most instances, giving candidates several opportunities to demonstrate the competences outlined in the (relevant) Person Specification above.

There will be no requirement for applicants to ST3 posts to sit any MMT (Machine-Marked knowledge Test).
