Offers & Employment

Offers

Deaneries can begin making offers to candidates once they have finished interviewing all of their candidates. However, please be aware that some deaneries interview candidates over a number of days, and also that there may be a delay between the last interview being completed and the first offer going out.

The offer of a post will be made via email, so please check your email account regularly; any emails sent to you from the application system will also go into the ‘My Messages’ section of the system, and so can be viewed via that portal.

All candidates are to respond to offers they receive within 48 hours of receipt (excluding bank holidays and weekends).

Please note that if you accept an offer, you must withdraw from the process, and relinquish any held offers.

Please be aware that not only is it against MMC rules to continue to hold more than one offer of a post, more importantly it is depriving someone else - who may already be a colleague of yours - of a timely offer of a post.

Holding offers

In certain circumstances, candidates will be able to ‘hold’ an offer they have received for longer than the standard 48-hour limit described above; if a candidate receives an offer from a specialty & deanery participating in the RCP-hosted process, they can hold this offer if they are awaiting the outcome of an application made to another RCP-hosted specialty & deanery.

For instance, if a candidate receives an offer from Gastroenterology in London, but is awaiting the outcome of an application made to Renal Medicine in North Western, for example, then they may hold the London/Gastro offer while they are waiting.

To do this, the candidate must inform the deanery making the offer (London in this example) that they will be holding the offer while they await the outcome of their other application.

To take advantage of this holding option, both the offer a candidate receives and the offer they are waiting for must be within the RCP-hosted process.

Overall offers deadline

Please note that all candidates must accept or reject any and all offers they have received by the overall offers deadline – in 2010 Round 2 this deadline is Monday 1 November 2010.

Employment

Following acceptance of a post offer, prospective employers – i.e. Trusts/Deaneries – will run criminal records and other checks, and approach your referees for references, if they have not already done so.

Provided the above factors are all satisfied, employers will then issue contracts of employment to appointed candidates, (start dates will vary between posts). Employers will also confirm salary details, pay banding, rotas, induction arrangements, etc.
